GK MÁRCIUS

GK MÁRCIUS

GK Március, an early ripening, spring wheat variety

Confirming its high yield potential, adaptability and other beneficial traits, particularly the high grain protein concentration, our spring wheat cultivar called GK Március is being to make its carrier onto the seed sale chain and commercial production in recent springs in sowing time. Our goal was to develop an early ripening, stress-tolerant, modern spring wheat cultivar with appropriate yield and high level of kernel protein concentration. GK Március (March) was named after its optimal planting period in Mid European zone.  It is a very fast growing/ripening genotype: from planting to harvest it need no more than 110 days, on the average of the crop years. Yielding ability is cca. 4-6 t/ha which is very favorable among the spring wheats in this area.

Thus, the most valuable characteristics of our spring wheat cultivar are the yielding ability, the earliness, and the high kernel protein concentration. Also, it performs sufficient resistance against powdery mildew, and other fungal diseases that may infect the cereal crops this time in Hungary and surrounding countries.

According to the results of Official Variety Testing Institution in Hungary, GK Március, within its spring wheat category, reached the highest Test Weight as well as grain protein content in its testing period proving the excellent power of this new cultivar. GK Március is highly suitable for seed production and it is distinguishable, uniform, stabile meeting with the legal requirements (UPOV-DUS requirements).
